Meet Alejandra Didio, Lead Trainer
I’m Alejandra and Yoga found me in 2004. At the time, I was 100 lbs. overweight and experiencing acute anxiety and panic attacks. I was scared, and frustrated and knew I needed help beyond allopathic medicine. As synchronicity would have it, a friend recommended “this thing called Yoga.”
Desperate to heal, I purchased the Gaiam DVD “Yoga for Every Body.” Seeing women of all sizes practice made me feel welcome, and being encouraged to breathe while feeling into my body and mind, helped me reconnect. Yoga regulated my nervous system, shifted my relationship with food, and allowed me to discover my calling as a teacher, empathetic listener, and Yogini. By 2009, 100 lbs. lighter and managing occasional anxiety, I was ready to become a Yoga instructor.
I completed a residential 200-hour Yoga teacher training at Sivananda Yoga Ranch in the Catskills of NY. The experience stretched me emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually. From 2012 to 2014, I completed a 500-hour Yoga teacher and therapist training at Gurukul Yoga in Bridgewater, NJ; a 300-hour Advanced Yoga teacher training through Yoga Synthesis in Ramsey, NJ; and a comprehensive Pilates Instructor training through PhysicalMind Institute in NYC. Over the span of 15 years, I have taught thousands of hours of Yoga, Pilates, and/or meditation both online and in-person.
My spiritual and physical endeavors have been complemented with academic pursuits that focus on healing people and the planet through connection. I have a B.A. and M.A. in Environmental Studies, an M.A. in Liberal Studies, a PhD in Environmental Management, and a Masters in Social Work. I was an adjunct professor of World Sustainability for 6 years and am currently an LCSW in MA, where I am a telehealth therapist for trauma survivors. I am certified in Trauma-informed Yoga, and Yoga Nidra through My Vinyasa Practice online, and am a certified Neurofit coach. I am currently completing a Somatic Yoga certification through My Vinyasa Yoga and an 800-hour Yoga Therapist Certification through Yogamu.
I teach multiple styles of Yoga, including Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, Restorative, and trauma-informed Gentle Yoga. I take an intuitive and person-centered approach to teaching guided by awareness, mindful and detailed cues, and an adaptive nature. I am grounded, yet lighthearted, and enjoy having fun when teaching and learning.
I believe every person is their own unique expression of being, as such, every Yoga journey is unique, and I look forward to walking alongside you on yours.
