Why Attend Yoga Teacher Training with Shakti Yoga Academy?

A lot of those we teach come to Shakti Yoga Academy because they want to have a better knowledge and understanding of their current practice and their relationship to yoga. Many practitioners don’t understand the alignment form and alignment action that goes into the pose. They want a deeper understanding of the philosophy behind the pose, the anatomy and physiology that goes along with it, and whether they’re doing it correctly.

There’s so much that our teacher trainings are all about that you often won’t get in a standard yoga class, such as giving them feedback and context behind why we exhale when we Forward Fold. They find it more fulfilling to understand the context behind such things as why we start classes with centering and breathing, and why we close with “OMs” or “Namaste.” Really understanding the ancient traditions of yoga and how we make it accessible for the western mind and body is an integral part of our teacher training.

. . . many practitioners lack the confidence to take steps to becoming a yoga teacher because they’re afraid they won’t know what they’re doing. We have a deliberate way of helping people to break through those barriers, to gain confidence, to find their voice, and to understand what it means to be genuine and authentic to who you are in your teaching practices.

For many of these reasons, these programs are sometimes sought out by serious practitioners without actually wanting to become a teacher. But we find that for many of our students, the deep rooted, driving force is that they have decided to become yoga teachers because they want to help other people and share the benefits of yoga on a much larger scale. They see how it benefits them, and they want to do that for other people.
